De-clutter Your Home

Here are a few shortcuts our team uses that can help you de-clutter your home. If the clutter in your home seems a bit overwhelming start with the small stuff first and know that there is no instant success. After all, the clutter didn't happen overnight and it will take time and patience before you see success. However, you can see fast results by picking up items like clothing off the floors or off furniture, putting away items after you use them and putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher and turning on the dishwasher to clean them. Plan to tackle your clutter bit by bit and day by day. The more you de-cluttered the more you will become inspired to dive into other cluttered areas (even the big stuff) in your home.

Remember to recycle glass, paper and plastic whenever possible to help reduce waste in our landfills. Most communities have a recycling program. Also, consider donating gently used clothing, books or toys to charitable organizations. Use local websites or community bulletin boards to give away items like furniture, an old door, windows, toilets, window blinds, sinks, faucets, kitchen cabinets, etc. that you no longer need. Take a moment to look up local companies that will take these same items from your home and re-sell them at a deep discount. Consider using these same vendors to purchase re-cycled items first before buying new items. Not only will you save money but many times these re-cycled items are in good shape and they sell hard to find (retro) items as well.

And finally, allow yourself time to appreciate the large efforts and the small ones. Many people become overwhelmed at the thought of cleaning their entire home at one time. An organizer will help you break your home or office into sections, then de-clutter one section at a time.

For example:

  • Section One: Bedroom area and hallway
  • Section Two: Living room, den or family room
  • Section Three: Kitchen and dining room
  • Section Four: Laundry room and other rooms
